Operations Lead

Staying on top of thousands of stores, distribution centers, and replenishment managers is an age-old problem in consumer goods — one that is especially brutal for insurgent brands that are short on time and manpower. And it's not a problem that will be solved with more software or more analysis: it'll be solved with action and agents that can achieve real world results. That's why Treater is the missing action engine for retail.

We're overturning a $200 billion industry of human sales reps that work for consumer brands, like Campbell's soup or Poppi, to ensure that stores are selling as much of their product as possible (typically through inefficient and lengthy store visits). Our autonomous agents ease that manual labor by working with stores and distributors to ensure that every last revenue opportunity is captured for our customers.

Our mission is to enable brands and retailers to maximize sales while freeing them to focus on what they do best: delighting consumers. This will be a new world where, instead of relying on 4 disparate stakeholders in a 10-message email chain over two weeks to solve an issue that costs millions in sales, Treater's platform autonomously surfaces and resolves the same obstacle in hours. In less than a year of operations, we've already driven millions of dollars in sales for our launch partners.

What we need

When it comes to Treater and our customers, we’re only as good as our last week. Put simply: Is the customer seeing ROI? Are our agents actually working as hard as possible each and every day to drive as many sales as possible for our customers?

To answer that question, you need to monitor an ocean of moving parts in the most effective way possible. Are we processing data for different retail consistently, or did something break 3 weeks ago? Does this email still work for this store’s deli department? Are we sending distributor reps the right information about out-of-stocks in any given territory? Did we resolve all outreach for last month’s endcap promotion?

Our system is designed and automated such that the answer to any of these questions should be yes, of course! But inputs to the system change under your feet. Processes go wrong. Or we might be missing the latest information from a customer about their retail operations — and, if so, we need to figure out how that particular gap never happens again.

Take it from us: Ensuring that all of these processes run smoothly each week for Treater is, honestly, an extremely rewarding task. The outcomes are so tangible that, more than any other job our team performs each week, you can honestly look at a huge national sales uptick for any of our customers and say “I just made that happen.”

What we need is someone who shares that enthusiasm and general love for impact, efficiency, and customer delight. What we need is a captain who can start piloting the increasingly large ship that is Treater to ensure everything that should be happening for our customers is actually happening — all while finding ways to steer the ship just a bit smoother, faster, and easier every single day.

What you'll do

  • At the highest-level: help us scale from thousands of interactions with retail stakeholders every month to hundreds of thousands. Define and evolve the key performance metrics for our daily operations, and do everything in your power to exceed them on a regular basis.
  • Help launch, configure, and manage a diverse line of automations and agents that serve our customers. If you enjoy playing with LLM prompts and working with product teams, you’ll love this.
  • Analyze diverse input streams to rapidly identify and solve gaps in our performance for customers
  • Ensure our knowledge base is correct. Telling a store about an exciting new promotion does not help anything if the promotion is not actually happening; in fact, it only hurts!
  • Educate our customers on how to use our product, and generally look for efficient ways to shift operational work from our team to the customer. We still do a lot of manual data entry work for our customers, which not only burns up time, but opens us up to mistakes and missed opportunities, since the customers always know their own data better than we do.
  • Inspect our automations and agents for quality, test methods for better results, and ensure implementation of improvements. Optimize guardrails around the platform. Design and execute standard operating procedures for resolving sub-optimal experiences.
  • Make the customers a priority. Pick up the phone when they call. Respond to their emails and Slacks right away.
  • Own onboarding of Treater customers and work closely with active customers on their success. Obsess over return-on-investment for customers and fill any glaring ROI gaps before anyone realizes that something is amiss.

What we promise you

  • High autonomy, excellent cash and equity, and a lean team of people on your level. The founders were previously the first employees of startups and know what it takes.
  • Solving a real problem. This is not a pipedream project or fun tech looking for a problem to solve. Customers actually need us to do a good job.
  • Support from our incredible network of investors and advisors.
  • Plenty of engaging work to be done that will give you free rein to build the perfect revenue machine for consumer goods, as described above.
  • You will work with everyone on the team and all of our customers. You will have a direct line to the founders. We do not build silos or org charts.

What we ask of you

  • 3+ years of experience in an operations or operations-adjacent role (e.g. management consulting, media, project management)
  • Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills — not just for your own sake, but for the sake of the communications that our platform generates for external stakeholders.
  • An eye for efficiency. Working hard will be necessary, but success will require a lot of smarter work as well. You’ll need the sense to step away from a task sometimes and say “Ok, there has to be a better way to do this.” And then do that.
  • Extreme ownership and agency over your workstreams.
  • Commitment to excellence. We don’t finish up for the night until we’re proud of the work we’ve done.
  • Be honest, especially when we make mistakes. A lot will be happening, and we’ve all made missteps. The important part is embracing honesty about what went wrong and how we can fix it for the future. We can promise you this accountability from the rest of the Treater team.
  • Passion for what we're building and our customers. We will have tough days, and that's when it's really important for this job to be more than just salary or equity. The founders are always on, and we promise that we'll always be right there working alongside you.
  • Empathetic, thoughtful, and positive when collaborating with teammates or direct reports.
  • Pumped to work in person in New York City.
  • Appreciate what our customers do! Consumer brands are really interesting to work with, and we'll always have incredible snacks in our office.
  • Technical experience with data, e.g. knowledge of SQL, is a plus.

Why we're excited about this

It's not every day that we get to transform one of the most influential and lucrative industries in the world into something that's not just more efficient, but more democratic. Consumer goods should succeed because they delight consumers, not because someone remembered to email a distribution center a reminder at 11:17 pm the day before a new SKU launches. We take on the nitty-gritty so that the brands can get back to what they do best: bringing great products to the world.

Compensation

A competitive compensation package including base salary in the range of $100,000-160,000 and equity in the company. Final offers will be based on factors including experience and interview performance. We provide a benefits package with great medical, dental, and vision coverage. We have a 401(k) plan and provide PTO. As a principle, we believe in a small, tight-knit and very well compensated team.
